Introduction

Hello Scope users and any other learner or teacher,

Nearly one decade into the 21st century we are still working hard to get you a useful tool for the development of your (students) language skills. Not just through Scope, your school may also be investing a lot of money in boosting your results by offering you TTO classes, extra listening material on Holmwoods ELT, etc.

We have taken quite a step to bring you a more user friendly version of our Scope magazine. Until now teachers had to copy a lot to get the assignments to the students for use at home or in the learners’ centre. In future the workbook exercises are going to be included on this website, so that students can work independently from the classroom and practise their reading and listening skills elsewhere and at home. Teachers will not have to spend so much classroom time on Scope, but there will be more exposure to English culture and language.

What’s more, responsibility for practising skills will more easily be put where it belongs, with you, young learners! We

classroom time on Scope, but there will be more exposure to English culture and language.

What’s more, responsibility for practising skills will more easily be put where it belongs, with you, young learners! We obviously expect you will enjoy doing your English thing and get focussed for the tough challenge of building your language skills for the rest of your life. Most of the topics you will encounter in this issue are pretty relevant for most of you, we hope. For example, how many times a day do you handle a glass. Have you ever wondered how it was made? Or take your mobile. Look where it comes from and how it came to be what it is!

Read what your peers from Timothy

Christian School, Chilliwack, B.C. think of their project at Pieter Zandt Scholengemeenschap, Kampen. You may meet some of those guys when they take their choir group around Holland this year. Not many of you will be familiar with Mongolia, a mysterious country wedged between Siberia and China. Find out more about it in this issue. After Christmas all of you must be practised singers. Well, the British royal anthem will give you a chance to sing along with your class.

Now, get set for your final terms this school year. Much blessing and success in 2010.
